The Founding Story
GetSet was founded in 2012 by Karan Goel and Eric Bjerstedt. They previously built PrepMe, a leading college readiness business and adaptive learning platform that helped thousands of students get into college. PrepMe was acquired in 2011 by the owners of Blackboard. After seeing many of PrepMe’s students drop out of college, they realized their mission wasn’t over. Without a specific product or idea in mind, Karan and Eric founded GetSet to solve a problem: too many students drop out of college. They spent 18 months researching, prototyping, and testing with real students before formally launching with several public and private institutions in 2014. GetSet is on track to serve over a hundred thousand students in 2016 and is driving substantial gains in student persistence.
